The James Bay Cree Communications Society is a Cree language radio broadcaster servicing the Cree communities of Mistissini, Ouje-Bougamau, Nemaska, Waswanipi, Waskaganish, Eastmain, Wemindji, Chisasibi, Whapmagoostui and the Hydro camps of Nemaska, Rupert and EM1. The Cree population is approximately 18,000 within the Cree Territory of Eeyou Istchee. The Cree Radio Network is made up of 9 local community stations. The JBCCS Board of Directors is made up of representatives from each of the 9 community stations, along with a representative from The Nation magazine and a Youth Representative.
At JBCCS, we believe in the importance of preserving the Cree culture and language and are committed to bringing you high quality Cree programming. We provide up to date reporting on events within Eeyou Istchee, live event broadcasting, weather reports, stories, and much more.
As radio network, with a close partnership with community stations, we aim to provide a hub to provide information about the Cree Nation as a whole. We also work closely with Cree entities, to make sure information gets out to our people.
